Raymond Briggs - Notes From the Sofa
This month I've been reading Raymond Briggs' stories with my 5 year old, and I've really enjoyed revisiting the likes of Gentleman Jim and Fungus the Bogeyman, which I loved when I was younger (maybe I'll save When the Wind Blows for a few years, though). So I was very pleased to hear that Briggs is set to release a new collection of his work through Unbound. There's a preview on the publisher's website here.
The book, Notes from the Sofa, brings together 10 years' worth of Briggs' writing for The Oldie magazine. Aimed at an adult audience, it is largely autobiographical, and draws on his experience of growing up in South London and being evacuated during the Second World War, as well as his thoughts on creativity and ageing. According to Briggs, “It’s a new form of writing for me because I’m always writing children’s books, or something that’s got to be in book form and a certain kind of subject matter… The great thing about The Oldie is that you can write about anything you like; absolutely anything that comes into your head.”
Supporters can pledge for a signed, 1st edition clothbound hardback as well as signed fine art prints, hardbacks and ebooks. As with other Unbound releases, supporters will have their names printed in the back of all editions of the book. You can pledge for Notes from the Sofa here.
